A person is limited only by the thoughts that he chooses”

- James Allen

Choose wisely.

Pay attention to your thoughts. How do they make you feel?

Are they positive? Do they feel good? Or are they negative?

Do they make you feel bad about yourself or others?

Allowing ourselves to negatively frame the way we think something creates a physical effect, releasing the hormone cortisol into the body, which is a natural response to physical or psychological stress. Some of the reactions our bodies and minds have to too much cortisol are anxiousness, irratibility, anger or rage outbursts, digestive issues, weight gain, high blood pressure, inability to sleep, lack of energy, depressed or irregular mood swings, altered perceptions and even chronic deseases. Issues we are having can be traced back to an unhealthy and undisciplined thought life.

This means that with a little practice, you can get it healthy and back into shape!

Choosing positive ways to think about or reframe things releases the hormone serotonin into your body. This is the feel good hormone which promotes positive shifts in emotional responses, improves mood, relieves the body from anxiousness and irritability back into a relaxed and calm state, improves memory and perceptions, helps digestion and metabolism and boosts energy levels.

Mind Detox Exercise

Step 1: Write down the thoughts you have in 2-5 minutes.

Step 2: Highlight the positive thoughts which uplift you and make you feel good.

This will show you how damaging or beneficial your thoughts are.

Step 3: In your list, look at the negative thoughts and take note on how they make you feel.

Cross out the negative thoughts and rewrite them in a more kinder way.

Even if you feel there’s some truth to it- reframe it - how would you actually say that thought to someone else?

For Example: Negative thought identified: "I can’t do this anymore!"

Reframed with kindness: (how you might say it to someone else)

"I know it’s hard right now, but you [I] can get through this; this too shall pass like all the other painful and difficult moments you [I] have walked through."

Next time these thoughts are in your mind, choose to reframe the negative ones with a positive, more encouraging one that you feel truth in.

This will induce more hopeful and peaceful emotions as it decreases your cortisol levels and boosts your bodies serotonin levels.

This takes practice!! Put the work in- Do a little bit daily!

The more you practice this, the more you become aware of your thought life, and the more easier it becomes to pick up those damaging thoughts and change them into something more beneficial.

As the old saying goes-

“Your mind is a Garden; Your Thoughts are seeds;

You can Grow Flowers or You can Grow Weeds!”

You do have power over your thoughts.
